My Favorite Movie

I am not a giant movie buff, not by any means. The last movie I saw in the theater was either Titanic or Shrek, I'm not even sure.  But I do watch some on Sunday afternoons in the winter months on the great cable channels. A lot of westerns (Roomy is addicted) and I will watch any Elvis movie that's on. I really enjoy all of those.

As for a favorite movie, if I were forced at gunpoint to choose one, it would have to be  Blue Hawaii.  It is not only probably Elvis' best performance, it has music that I can sing along with and my favorite all time song, The Hawaiian Wedding Song.  The scenery is nice and I have actually frolicked in the bay where Elvis first donned his white very snug bathing suit coming directly from the airport upon his return to his home island following his Army stint.  He then played in the bay with his beautiful co-star, what's her name. (who cares?)  I walked in the same sand and I swam in the same water as Elvis. Very cool. Then he goes home to see his momma and daddy (very southern folk) and the story begins to unfold.

I have seen this movie many times, have it on VCR and DVD and I never get tired of seeing my idol as Chadwick the rich ex-service man trying to find his new life back home on the island.  It's a nice story, nothing deep, nothing socially redeeming, but a nice love story.  A story of a good man trying to do good things for people he loves. No one would even make this movie today; there's no nudity, no swearing, no blow 'em up scenes and it contains a lot of kissing and hugging with clothes on.  There's a lot of singing and dancing and silliness and I love it.

I would say if I had a second favorite, not saying I do, but if I did, it would be Dirty Dancing. Patrick Swayze.  Nuff said.

  1. Jo, I just love good movies like that where I don't have to worry about hearing the F word or other "adult content." Elvis was awesome. Loved his movies as a very little girl and that voice and smile of his - irreplaceable...His southern background gave him that bluesy flair he integrated into rock. He had soul. You have good taste, Joe!

    1. Thank you so much. It's good to know that others still appreciate a good wholesome love story or cowboy story (Love Me Tender, Stay Away Joe)great entertainment. Easy on the eyes and the ears.

His music is so all over the place. No matter your taste, he had a song you could love.

  2. G.I.Blues was always my fave Elvis movie, mainly, I think because I'd been to some of the places in Germany where it was filmed.

    1. Oh yeah, Elvis in uniform wasn't hard to take at all! You know, he enjoyed his time in Germany with the Army and of course, met his one and only wife while there.

  3. I love movies, all different kinds and for all different reasons. It is really going to be hard for me to pin down a favorite for this week's topic.

    1. I imagine a lot of movie lovers will have that problem but I feel sure you'll think of one that spoke directly to you. :)

  4. I prefer good wholesome movies too. If I'm watching a movie and a sex scene starts, I am out of there! I don't even care how the movie ends at that point. I think I like all the same movies that kids like... LOL

    1. Oh Velda, I was sure of that, too! Why didn't he come to Gaines, just once? Oh yeah, because he would not have been able to choose between you and me and then, we would never have been able to be friends ever again.

  6. OK...let's try this again... I wrote a nice long comment, then Google deactivated my whole Google account for "unusual activity or violation of TOS"!!! I think they just wanted my phone number....

I like good wholesome movies too. If I see a sex scene, I am switching channels in a NY second!

Maybe Google deactivated my account because I said "sex"....???

    1. Some young hot guy saw that mug shot and said "Hey, I gotta me some a dat!". I saw it on my email anyway. Thanks for re-commenting! ♥
I am sure you and all the kids I know would enjoy all the movies I watch around here. Sex on the screen doesn't do it for me, at all. I'm just like you, I see it, I'm gone.

      You sexy thang you! ♥

  7. I'd have a heck of a time choosing just one favorite movie. Maybe a dozen. Maybe. But definitely not one.

    1. Yeah, I get that. It just isn't me. Not my thing.
You could make a list though! With reviews?

  8. I don't watch much t.v. and when I am in front of the tube, it's usually to watch a movie. I have tons of favorites from comedies to dramas and love to quote the comedies in funny real life situations. Did you hear that? My cool points just sky-rocketed! ;-)

    1. If I could remember anything, I'd do that, too! i don't remember the lines though and can almost never identify the movie even if a quote sounds familiar to me. LOL I'm a dork, you are totally cool.
