DOG DAYS of SUMMER

Michigan usually has spring temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s with an occasional jump up to the 80’s and then for summer we enjoy 80’s and 90’s most days. In an average year, we see a good deal of rain in May, a fair amount in June and July will have a few rain out days leaving August to be mostly dry. In most years our grass and flowers begin to brown and die toward the end of August from lack of rain. September is often quite rainy. Many lawns green up again and many flowers will come back for their last hurrah!

This year we have had a near drought if not a full blown drought. We have had Dog Days of Summer most of the summer. Our temps have been in the 90’s and over 100 with high humidity several weeks running. Not normal, but I have enjoyed it very much. I would have liked a night long rain every now and again, but we have finally had some and everything is all green and happy again.

The Dog Days of Summer are the wonderful hot, humid and hazy days in Michigan. The days when the air is so heavy it’s a little hard to take a deep breathe outside. If you are out more than say 5 minutes, you will be sweaty and uncomfortable. If you have yard work to do, you will probably want to do that early in the morning or late in the evening, it might be cooler.  Our Dog Days don’t always cool off at all.  It’s my favorite time of the year.

I am happiest from the first signsof spring and warm air until the first sign of fall. Even when the air is still warm, if the trees begin to turn the vibrant colors of fall, I’m all done being happy girl with a smile and a good attitude. I become the girl who is battling depression.

Not wasting a single one of these fabulous hot humid summer Dog Days, you’ll find me outside most of the time. I really love summer.  ♥♥♥

THE  DOG DAYS OF SUMMER REALLY ROCK FOR THIS OLE GAL!!!

    1. I know you are in the majority! I'm the weirdo who loves it, but I can take days like this one, too. Mid 70's maybe touching the 80 degree point and a lovely breeze all day long.

Thanks for bringing me love...I'm always looking for it!

♥ right back at choo cuz you're such a cuddle bear.

  2. Summer is my favorite time of the year too! I hate being stuck outside, even at my 'ripe old age'.

      Thanks for stopping by. ♥

  3. Lovely blog about how much you adore summer!! I can just imagine you on a raft in the middle of your pool lazing the day away without a care in the world.

    1. LOL I do that now and then. But most of my summer days are spent puttering outside and relaxing on the deck under the awnings with a fan blowing. I really do love being outside and the pool does beckon me to step in or jump in or float around or just sit in the steps, but that's not every day.

      Thanks Kathy.

    1. Hi Ellen...glad to see you here. I don't mind the humidity, a nice breeze helps though. It's all good to me. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

  5. I wish I appreciated the heat like you do - I am a total a/c addict. Last week when I was in NY (where I grew up, and was fine with the humidity) I was beyond hot - it was like the air was pushing against me as I walked!

    1. I wish you did, too. It's a matter of hating winter and fall so much that I relish every warm ray the sun throws my way, really.

The air does get heavy and I know the feeling, but I like so much better than having cold, wet wind blow me backwards down the sidewalk.

      Thanks for sharing, Sharon.

  6. Here in Southern California, we are finally experiencing HOT temperatures. Summer isn't summer until you're sweating from sun up to sun down. I prefer our dry desert heat to your kind of humid heat though. Humidity just wears me out and down.

    1. Oh how I love southern Cali! I visited San Diego while my baby was in the Navy and I fell in love with the weather and the ocean and the beaches...oh the beaches. ♥♥♥

I don't mind the humidity if I can have the heat. Sweat is a weight loss tool for me, or so I tell myself. I'm never gonna work hard enough to sweat so I have to go with the humidity! ;-)

Nice to meet you Guru and we'll be seeing each other along the way, I'm sure. Running off to your site now. ♥

  7. I am a complete opposite. I HATE summer. Each spring, I start dreading the long, hot summer. I perk up a bit when Sept rolls around because I finally have hope for some cooler air. Last winter was a huge disappointment because it still felt like summer for most of last winter. I sure hope we get a cooler winter this year!

    1. Now in all fairness, I might also not be a summer girl if I lived in Florida. I might become a winter girl. lol

I just hate being cold and not being able to sit outside and breathe. I love sun and heat. Arizona, one day, will be my home.

Thanks Darlene. I love that you always come by and share. ♥

    2. Awww... Thanks Jo, but I don't deserve any praise. I have turned into a hit or miss blogger in both writing and reading. I feel bad about that a lot, but so much is going on in my life that I just can't seem to keep up. I admire the way you get around, read and comment. I know that you encourage and lift up all who you touch. I must work harder to become more like you when I grow up! ♥

    3. You must not change a thing and Lord knows the world does NOT need you to be more like ME!
You sell yourself short-I think you do just fine. It's more about quality than quantity!

  8. Have to agree with Darlene, I hate hot weather and I'm counting down to autumn. I thrive in brisk, cold weather. I'm glad you're enjoying your summer though, some good has to come of this unprecedented heat.

    1. I could hardly read this one...made me shiver just reading those cold words. I'll be hibernating while you and Darlene enjoy the winter. Though, she is in Florida...really? Ha

  9. I love summer too but consider it over once I go back to teaching. Would you believe that summer has been over for a full two weeks?
