ADVENTURE

Life itself is an adventure, isn't it?

What is around the next corner?  The next hour? Will tomorrow be a good day, a sad day, a boring day or will it be the best day you've ever lived through?

As lives go, mine hasn't really been exciting, but it hasn't been completely boring either. I've had some days that weren't really an adventure, but since I lived through them, they were adventurous enough for my taste.  I've also had some pretty heart-pounding days that could be labeled as adventurous, but I don't want to re-live any of those!

Okay, it's pretty clear here that I do not live with adventure. I don't crave it. I don't seek it. I don't even like it. I do love a good roller coaster, but in reality, how adventurous is that? What with the seat belt thing and all.

There is only one adventure I long to take part in that I haven't, yet.  I really want to zip line. Not just a little zip line. I want to zip down a mountain side or across a deep river gorge or something really cool like that. I think it looks like so much fun that I can't imagine why every single person isn't in line somewhere to buckle up and zip!  Someday I will be someplace where one of these exist and I WILL do it.  I will do it alone because my traveling companion has nada interest in doing anything on a zip line. (He also thinks I'm suicidal for even thinking I might like it.)

For the most part, I think just navigating my everyday life is enough of a challenge. I'm not an adrenaline junky, by any means. I rather like my dull and routine life. I like that things are usually exactly what I expected and that I'm prepared for and don't cause me to go off the deep end. Going off the deep end is a rare and not happy place for me. If I'm not in control to some extent, I am probably a bit uneasy. The biggest weakness I have is that spontaneity is not my friend. (It's not my only one, but it is a big one.) I really wish it was my friend. I would like not to be such a routine, planning and everything as it should be kind of person. That's who I am. I've tried the flying by the seat of my pants way of life and it just makes me crazy.

Yeah, being crazy is probably not better than being boring.

Do you think adventure in your life is a good thing?

Is it a necessary thing for you?

What is your favorite adventure?

  1. I do not like the heart pounding, breath stealing type of adventure. Although I do love the adventure of each new day. Even when I have it all planned out, God usually has a way of showing me He is in control and my plans are not always His plans. That for me is necessary. Knowing that He has my back. Dull and routine work for me. Elaine

    1. Thanks for stopping and taking time to comment! I could not agree more with you. With God in control, I have all the adventure my little heart can handle.

  2. I lived a pretty boring life, until I moved out of my parents home and started a life of my own. Since then, my life has felt like a rollercoaster. So, I don't need to get on the real one! Seriously, I'm not much for spontaneity either, but when the mood strikes, I am all over it!

    1. I know that your life is way more of an adventure than mine, but that's okay with me. I like the stress free and easy going life I'm living. It would be fun to be a bit less controlled sometimes though.

  3. I can't see my life without adventure. It is what keeps the blood flowing. My favorite adventure..taking my wife on a 6 day hike on the Heaphy Trak in New Zealand.

    1. That trip looked fantastic. I am sure I would enjoy that kind of trip, but I'd prefer a horse to ride.
It's a man thing, maybe. Though I have done some fun things that were adventurous, I suppose, I no longer crave that.

  4. My definition of adventure is to live life in awe and have those moments that take our breath away, to do the things we want to do, to live life to the fullest whatever your definition of that is. So yes, I want to have those adventures. What is my favourite adventure - life itself, whatever it throws at me.
I can already see you zip down that mountain or deep river gorge. Have a blast.
    love and hugs.

  5. Ahhh ziplines! I had an opportunity to do that once and I balked. I hope you accomplish it!

I think most life events can be adventurous, even a trip to the grocery store, but I appreciate being taken out of my comfort zone once in awhile and seeing something new.

    1. It's good to step out and do something new now and again. Go for it, while you are able, I say.

      Thank you. ♥

  6. Life is one grand adventure if you choose to look at it that way. With that perspective every day can be a new adventure.

  8. I would love to Zip Line too!! I think that would be so cool!! Yes I love adventure--to a point. I love roller coasters and I love walking through the woods, I love doing things I've never done before, I love facing new challenges. For me --these are all forms of adventure. No matter how little or how big-- I like exploring what is for me the unknown (me def. of an adventure!). Cheers, Jenn

  9. I'm not adventurous - at least not in the adrenaline pumping way! Don't particularly like heights either so zip-lining would be nothing short of a nightmare to me! I was trembling like a jellyfish when I crossed the Capilano suspension bridge in Vancouver. Adventure to me is exploring new places - but at ground level!

    1. My adventures usually come in less 'exciting' ways, but I do harbor that zip line dream.
I also love new places and new things of all kinds.

  10. Adventure... yes I do enjoy a good adventure. Dangerous adventures are an entirely different thing. I have done the zipline, across the Royal Gorge in Colorado. It wasn't scary, or exciting, but beautiful. An adventure... yes, I do enjoy them. :-)

    1. It would be exciting to me because I have a small fear of heights. Not being high up, but being high up and not standing on something solid. Swinging bridges, para sailing, rock climbing...sorta scare me, but also intrigue me. I'd be excited, scared and exhilarated all at the same time. ♥

  11. I don't think adventure is necessarily about risking your life. An adventure can be both exciting and safe. I guess it's all about what a person wants out of life. Sometimes I prefer the relaxing routine that I'm used to and others I like the excitement and novelty. My preference of adventure is to travel to as many new places as I can. I love roller coasters too, and would probably even do the zip line with ya. I definitely want to sky-dive one day,also...I think it will have to be soon though as I find the less young I get, the more I'm freaked out by risks; I never used to care and would always do something before I could think about it if there was a possibility of fear.

    1. I think you should sky dive soon! I have no desire to jump out a plane, but that's cuz I'm a chicken! I do agree there is a lot of adventure in going where you haven't been and seeing what you haven't seen. I like that, too.

  12. That zip line thing looks SO fun! I'm with you on that. And I'd kind of like to sign up for one of those crazy challenges where they have you climbing big 'ol walls, repelling down, shimmying through the mud under an obstacle, that sort of thing.

Oh, and I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want to find a flash mob and be part of that.

    1. Okay zip lining for two! I'll cheer you on that challenge course thing, I may be a bit out of shape for that one.
I'd do the flash mob thing in a heartbeat!
